Natural Diva Spotlight: My Mommy!!

Image
Twist Out After a couple years of suggesting and pleading.....She finally agreed to let the relaxer go. NO LYE! lol The Why For various reasons, my Mom's hair was beginning to thin and break off and the harsh chemicals every 6 weeks was not helping. She finally decided to give her tresses a break and July 2012 was the last time she put a relaxer in The How Wigs are a lady's best friend! Regimen Pretty simple regimen. Keep it washed and minimal heat applied. I used henna to color her very few and far between grays (shhhh!). I used Moroccan henna from Henna Sooq ....great place! Happily Ever After I am happy to report that her hair is getting stronger, growing, and she only has normal hair shedding. As of yesterday, she is completely natural!! *****Keep Learning, Living, and Loving Your Natural Hair

1. Why did you decide to go natural and how long have you been natural? I decided to go natural for various reasons. One was the desire to find myself and not live through my hair. I also big chopped because I couldn’t stand the thought that I had to constantly press out my hair after receiving a relaxer was just killing me!!! I big chopped on June 7 2010 which would make me 9 months natural! 2. How did you transition? I began to transition without realizing it. At first it was just a stretching mechanism but in mid March I decided to really transition. I used to use sew-ins and just plaint ponytails. I also flat ironed which was a bad thing which I learned. Thankfully, I didn't have much heat damage. 3. What is your regimen? I try to keep a consistent regimen but I am such a flip flopper. But if I were to pinpoint exactly what I do...its simply I listen. This meaning if my hair feels dirty Ill cowash, if its dry I moisturize and so on. But now I see that my hair is starting to ...

 1. Why did you decide to go natural and how long have you been natural? My husband and I along with my two kids left New Orleans because of Hurricane Katrina. I Was worried about my hair falling out from perming since I was moving from an extremely humid climate to a dry one. The last perm I had was in August 2005. I’m just at around 5 ½ years natural. 2. How did you transition? POORLY!!! I wouldn’t adivse anyone to transition the way I did. I didn’t have a clue what the heck I was doing and my hair was not happy with me for it. I wore wigs, weaves and braids all the while still using relaxed hair products. I did that for about 3 years before I woke up, embraced my curls and learned what I needed to know to have healthy hair. I also do the BC around that time but didn’t have a clue that it was called that. I just cut the remainder of the perm along with a lot of damage. 3. What is your regimen? I am a wash and go queen! I co-wash in the shower about 4 or 5 times a we...

1. Why did you decide to go natural and how long have you been natural? I have been natural for 15 months now. I decided to go natural because having a relaxer was high-maintenance. I have two daughters so having to do 3 heads was very time consuming. I wanted the versatility and freedom that could only be achieved with natural hair! Now if I'm short on time I don't have to worry about whether or not I'll have time to style my hair...I can water spritz or saturate and towel blot my hair and I'm out the door! 2. How did you transition? I wasn't bold enough to do the BC. So I gradually grew out my relaxer and received regular trims-every 6 weeks until it was allllllll gone! I made an attempt to transition once before and about 4 months into it I decided to get a relaxer and my hair broke off. So the last time I decided to transition I knew there was no going back. I did my research and went full speed ahead! 3. What is your regimen? I clarify monthly with ...
