1. What is your name and where are you from Tiana, Tuscaloosa, AL 2. Why did you decide to go natural and how long have you been natural now? I had a lot of breakage in my hair due to perms and me not taking care of it. I’ve been natural for 1 year and 9 months. 3. How did you transition? I grew out my perm with sew-ins and cut off the last 3 inches of perm that was left. 4. What is your regimen? I wash every week. I regularly wear twist outs, the classic Afro puff, and sew-ins. 5. What are 4 products you use regularly? Pink Oil Moisturizer, carrot oil, olive oil, and Eco Styler Gel. 6. What advice would you give to someone transitioning or to a new natural? Keep your patience and dont ever go back to a perm! 7. Where can we find you? Instagram:@one_unique_girl  https://www.facebook.com/tiana.lavender.7?fref=ts https://twitter.com/Im_Uniqu eT

Straighten Natural Hair with the InStyler

Image
I decided to give straightening my hair another go. Its been so long I was definitely out of practice! First, I washed my hair using Miss Jessie's Super Slip Sudsy Shampoo and conditioned with their Creme de la Curl Cleansing Creme (which was buy one get one free!). I used Kinky Curly's Knot Today as a leave in. Second, I sectioned my hair and applied Beyond the Zone Smooth Criminal Thermo Protect Spray. I then blow dried using a paddle brush. Lastly, I sectioned my hair and used Isoplus's Pressing Oil before using the InStyler to straighten. I did cut my hair to even the layers out. I am pleased with my turn out!! I have managed to keep it straight for about 3 weeks but I am going back to my curls because I don't want any damage to my hair.

Growth Check - Oct 2010 to June 2011

Image
I figured it was time for another growth check. I estimate that I have grown about 3 inches since August 2010....only a guess. I had a little breakage on one side due to over manipulation. I have been doing protective styling ever since. The ponypuff pic shows a good visual of how much my hair has grown. 8 months of growth In the pics below the growth is not that obvious. I placed lines to depict the growth. Of course you have to give in account shrinkage. Nevertheless I'm progressing towards my goal of shoulder lenghth hair with shrinkage! 8 months of growth For more growth checks click here and here

Rose Water and Glycerin Mix

Image
Source I ran out of my rosewater and glycerin pre-mixed spray, so I decided to make my own this time. I purchased Frontier vegetable glycerin and Alwadi rosewater. I used a 4 oz. bottle, put 2 parts rosewater, 1 part aloe vera juice, and about 1 tbs. of glycerin. If you plan to try it, you can play around and do variations to find what does well with your coils. Do not use too much glycerin unless you want sticky hair! Be sure to refrigerate afterwards. This spritzer is a great way to add moisture to your hair between washes. Today I am using it to do dry twists. If you try it, come back and let me know how it worked out for you and your recipe used! Glycerin is great for your hair because it attracts water and water=moisture. Rose water increases bloodflow to the scalp, which promotes hair growth.

February 2011 Length Check

Image
Feb 2010 I have done a horrible job keeping up with my length since my semi BC. Oh well, better late than never. Here is my progress so far! May 2010

My Length Check...May 2010-October 2010

Image
fro on the left still had relaxer on tips I have been doing a horrible job with keeping up with my growth! I went through my photos to see what I can come up with to show you all my growth from May to October. I started taking the multivitamins for hair about a month ago, so I can not give feedback on their contribution to my growth. Of course I couldn't keep the scissors away from my hair, so I snipped here and there to even out my hair. I really notice my growth. When I first big chopped, my hair barely touched my ear. Now, when it is stretched, it is to my neck on the side. In the front, it touches my chin.

Two Strand Twist Maintenance

Image
Yall, I actually still have my twists! I put them in last Sunday, and as tempted as I am to take them out for my twist out, I will not! I have a fall/winter goal to really focus on growth. I miss my shoulder length hair. I plan to wear a protective style for a week or two, then a glam style for a week. This will keep my hair from getting tangled and those pesky knots from forming. Talked to a fellow naturalista and she talked about how a multivitamin for hair and nails have helped her, so I may give it a try.
